The wonderful folks at Prometheus Books (Pyr) sent me a finished copy of Philippa Ballantine’s new fantasy novel, Hunter and Fox. Since I already have an ARC I’ve decided to share this beautiful, new, shiny trade paperback. Here’s a quick refresher on Hunter and Fox (read my review at the link above):
In a world that is in constant shifting, where mountains can change to plainsand then to lakes, Talyn is the Hunter for the Caisah, and a wreck of a once-proud person. She has lost her people, the Vaerli, and her soul working for the man who destroyed her people. All unknowing, she carries within her a Kindred, a chaos creature from the center of the earth that wants to help bring the Vaerli back to power. However, she has lost the ability to communicate with it.
The Vaerli have gifts. In the story of Hunter and Fox, these gifts have been stripped from them. Examples are: seeing things before they happen, healing, connecting mentally with others of their race, etc. To enter my giveaway all you have to do is leave a comment telling me what gift you’d like to have. It doesn’t need to be a Vaerli gift, it can be anything. For me it would be a tie between super healing and the ability to talk to animals.
Giveaway has Ended!
The winner of Hunter and Fox has been contacted.
I would like be able to use songs for different powers, i.e. to sing a song of healing, or destruction. The song would be new each time so it wouldn’t be a proper “spell,” just my voice and my lyrics!
Love the idea!
I would love to have the gift of talking to animals. I know there are probably things that they don’t want humans to know, but I think it would be neat to speak to them and find out what goes on in their heads. 🙂
Same here, Lila. I’d especially like to know what my cats are thinking. 🙂
The talent that I’ve l always had until recently is empathy. The ability to feel the emotions of others and understand the thoughts behind them. Unfortunately like Talyn I’ve seem to have lost the ability to do so when attending a friend’s black belt test. Here’s hoping it comes back quickly.
Good luck!
The gift I would love to have is telekinesis. I would use it for everything, from getting a piece of paper from the printer and pushing my son on the swing set, all the way to getting cats out of trees and helping to rescue babies from burning buildings.
Telekinesis would definitely change my ability to multi-task!
i have the gift of holding wild birds in my open hands, even out in the wilderness at any time of the year… scroll through five reflections and you’ll see one photo from the 1970s…
Wow! That’s a wonderful gift.
Heya Amanda! You are doing the good work: spreading your love of books and reading far and wide. And, like I shared with your earlier, I do not need to be entered into this drawing. Just here as my regular show of support. Go, go, go! 😀
*hugs* 😀
I’d love to have the ability to speak and understand all languages. Frankly, I’d love it if everyone had this ability; I think it would make the planet much smaller place.
Great choice!
I would like to be able to talk to trees–well, plants in general, but especially trees. I think they would have a lot to tell us if we were listening.
I was reading an article on plant communication this week. I think you’re onto something Anita!
The gift I want is simple, and yet incredibly hard to formulate in words. Any time I wish, I would like the ability to know the sum total of all human knowledge on whatever subject I am thinking about. For instance, if I were to think about a person, I would know everything that anyone in the world does (or has ever) known about that person.
This reminds me of a television series (2002-2003) called John Doe. He knew everything, as if he was jacked into the internet and every book ever published and unpublished, but he didn’t know his own identity.
In a world that is ever changing, I would want my ability to be able to manipulate the those changes.
Interesting. Like manipulate matter?
My gift would be the ability to cast illusions. It sounds like a fun way to mess with people. 😛
LOL It certainly would be.
