Regrets will latch onto the heart,
Suffocate it, wear it thin with no regard
For the laws of time and space.
Yet, I draw them in, clutch them tight,
Not because I yearn to suffer,
No.
Because life must be kept at a distance
Lest my heart begins to beat again.

Something about your poem reminds me of a poem by Carolyn Kizer that I like … not that this means anything at all to ya. Just having a chat with myself over your poetry. Ta! 😛
I’d love if you shared the poem. 🙂
