I’m not one for following prompts. When I’m writing or painting I need to follow my own path, but today’s prompt from NaPoWriMo was like an open door. We were invited to choose the first line from a favorite poem to use as the first line of our poem. I decided to flip through one of my old university textbooks, Poem, Poets, Poetry by Helen Vendler, to find a poem. I chose William Wordsworth’s A slumber did my spirit seal.
A slumber did my spirit seal;
From which I never woke:
Searching for a place to kneel
My weary heart long broke.
Twas your hand, gentle and sincere
Which pulled me from my hole;
A guide to drive away my fear
And bring light to my soul.

One of my faves. Some of my recent Ethereal Landscape woodland paintings are inspired by reading Wordsworth. π
Participating in this challenge has reminded me of all the poetry I love and miss. I think I need to go out and buy a Wordsworth book this weekend. π
Cool blog … like the rhythm of the first bit … and then you broke out of the mold into your own classic bit of text. Fun. π
Thanks! It was fun approaching a poem in a different way. Today’s poem is all me. I should have it finished in the next hour or so–I hope. π
