Yesterday I posted the first stanza of this poem. I didn’t realize til afterward that it was only part of a poem. Today I wrote the rest. It’s still only a rough draft, but I hope you enjoy this piece of my heart.
– You and I –
When I close my eyes I travel back,
My dreams and hopes made tangible.
Every glance, every unsaid word, tug
Deep into the well bored through
My chest. I gasp and reach
But you and I have made an art
Of avoiding love.
When I close my eyes I sink into
The darkness and unseen regrets.
I wander, no destination in reach,
Into the void where you once
Resided. I look for you
But you and I have made an art
Of chasing love.
When I open my eyes I fall forward,
Sepia strands stained gray flow
Behind me, a river of lost memories,
The last place I will find you.
Our hearts touch and yearn
But you and I have made an art
Of forgetting love.

Very Nice-
Thank you, Cynthia! 🙂
Lovely. I love the ending 2 lines. I think as a relationship wanes through the years we do this often, over and over again.
Thank you!
You are so cute – I’m glad I caught part 2. This is a beautiful poem!!
Thanks!
