Call of Cthulhu

Yes. You read that correctly. My weekend will include an appearance by the legendary Cthulhu! Tonight I’m attending a production of The Call of Cthulhu at my favorite Athens playhouse, The Town & Gown.

The Call of Cthulhu is one of H. P. Lovecraft’s best-known short stories. Written in the summer of 1926, it was first published in Weird Tales, February 1928. It is the only story written by Lovecraft in which the extraterrestrial entity Cthulhu himself makes a major appearance. — Excerpted from The Call of Cthulhu on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

You can read the short story online at Wikisource – The Call of Cthulhu.

I’m going to the performance with a close friend and my daughter, but beforehand we’ll be having dinner in Athens and checking out a relatively new Indie Bookstore.

Avid Bookshop

Avid Bookshop opened late last year and happens to be located not far from The Town & Gown. I’ve been meaning to plan a visit, but I don’t often travel to that side of town. I live on the far side of Watkinsville, in farm country, so it’s a good 30 minute drive from me. That may not sound like much, but after a long week I’m not always in the mood to drive to that side of Athens.

I also don’t get many nights out, so watch out Athens!
