In year’s past I’ve chosen five books as my best reads of the year, but not this time. This year I’ve decided to choose one book from adult fiction and one book from young adult (I’ll also mention the runner ups). I didn’t read nearly as many books as I wanted to this year, but I did a lot of writing. I even won Honorable Mention in the StoryaDay contest! The year has had its up’s and down’s but I can’t complain too much. I’m still here, fighting the fight and I have wonderful friends and a supportive family. I better get to the books before I start reminiscing about the entire year!

Embassytown by China Miéville

You might have seen this coming. I’ve said on numerous occasions this was the best book I read all year. Embassytown was a challenging book (my review). Navigating Miéville’s alien world and culture, plus a human culture far advanced than our own, was at times mind boggling. But once the subtle plot began to fall into place I couldn’t stop reading.

My runner up’s:

~ Top Young Adult Fiction Read ~

My top YA read was a tough call. I thought I might have a tie between Ashes and Ashes, Ashes. In the end, Ilsa J. Bick’s apocalyptic/dystopian world won out. Both books get multiple, OMGs! You can read my review here.

My runner up’s:
