In May I had the pleasure of reading Wintercraft before it was released in the US as Shadowcry, thanks to the wonderful Jenna Burtenshaw. It was everything I imagined and anticipated! Wintercraft is a return to solid Fantasy/Adventure fiction. The lack of over-the-top romance, so prevalent in YA literature today, was refreshing. Genuine characters, magic, adventure, dark forces — Wintercraft has it all.
I expected no less when I began reading Blackwatch. The story picks up right where Wintercraft left off, in the heart of The City Below. Don’t worry, I’m not going to give anything away, but there is something you should know. Blackwatch will give you shivers! Book two delves deeper into Kate’s gift, it’s history and her power to change the course of events to come. This intricate web that holds Albion together is what makes the Wintercraft books so consuming. Burtenshaw left nothing to chance. Her worldbuilding skills are masterful!
When I first introduced the book to my daughter she was hesitant, but soon she too was absorbed in the story. It’s been a great experience having a series we both enjoy and can discuss together, and it’s not over yet!

How wonderful that you are continuing on with this series. I read the first book (as I no doubt told you already) and I made it my staff pick at work. I think that I’ll be posting about my lil’ staff pick signage on my next blogpost. 😀
I look forward to it!
