StoryaDay 2011If it were 5 p.m. I’d be opening a bottle of wine to celebrate. Alas, it’s no where near 5 p.m. and the wine rack is empty. So instead I’m going to treat myself to not one but two chocolate chip cookies. Why? The results for the StoryaDay 2011 Writing Contest are in and I received Honorable Mention!! 😀

Here’s a link to the results: Short Story Contest 2011 Winners

I am ecstatic! The first round judge was Melanie Rigney, former managing editor of Writer’s Digest magazine and the final round judge was Heidi W. Durrow, whose first novel The Girl Who Fell From The Sky (Algonquin Books, 2010) won the Bellwether Prize and NYT Bestseller.

Entering the 2011 Short Story Contest was a huge step. The whole idea was terrifying but I pushed through my doubts and insecurities. Winning Honorable Mention tells me I can write and I must keep writing! This little big of recognition was the confidence boost I needed.

The story I entered is titled Evaluation M-047. You can read the rough draft on my StoryaDay blog (for a limited time). I haven’t decided whether to share the edited and beefed up version on web, as I may do more revisions (and possibly submit for publication?).

Thanks to everyone who showed their support back in May when I was juggling both a story a day and the Indiegogo Project!
