~ Nunc Dimittis
by Tanith Lee

One Word Review: Dark

Nunc Dimittis is a depressing, yet beautiful story of a vampire’s guardian coming to the end of his life. Painfully and lovingly he goes in search of his replacement. Through this process we learn how he came to be in the service of Princess Draculas. Draculas? I couldn’t help but snicker.

Again, this was not what I’d call horror but I did enjoy the story. Lee delved deep into the soul of the dying guardian, showing us his pain, his love, and his acceptance. This was definitely a step up from The Typewriter, but I’m still waiting to be frightened…
