I’ve been waiting, as patiently as one can wait, for the cover of City of Hope & Despair to be revealed. This is the second book in the City of a Hundred Rows series by Ian Whates. The first book, City of Dreams & Nightmare, proved a bit frustrating. Nonetheless, I was glued to the pages. Now I want more! City of Dreams & Nightmare comes out today! Sadly City of Hope & Despair won’t be heading this way till April 2011, but we can still admire the beauty of it’s cover art.
I would have liked to have seen a higher resolution image, but this is all we have for now. The artist is Greg Bridges, a fantasy and science fiction artist from Australia. His art adorns the first book too. Both paintings elicit a yearning for the unknown, discovery of a new worlds. This one in particular reminds me of an Albert Bierstadt painting, with the small figures set against the enormous expanse.
